The next generation of wireless networks are to be called “802.11n”. It is planned they will deliver speeds of up to 600Mbps. Presently Draft N products are available offering advertised speeds of 300Mbps.
The 802.11n standard is due to be published next year, based on the approval by the IEEE (Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineers).
Draft-N is not an approved or published standard, yet many manufacturers, who cite that their products are Draft-N compatible, may disappoint customers as it could be that products will fail to interoperate with each other or may not be able to be upgradable to the final standard.
Also the speeds advertised for Draft N and 802.11n are only achievable when very close to the Access point. The speed dramatically drops off as you move away from the access point. Speeds of 600Mbps will require a complex antenna system which will add significant cost to the product.
For early adopters prepared to take a risk, then Draft N may be a risk worth taking, but for the remaining consumers, integrating PowerLine HomePlug into your existing network, will provide you with a far more stable investment and at a more reasonable price.
PowerLine HomePlug offers far greater stability than any wireless solution. It does not suffer from the same back ground interference and signal absorption as wireless and can deliver grater throughput over longer distances.
