What’s the difference between a modem and a router?

A modem or router is required to connect to the Internet.

A modem is used to connect your computer to the Internet using a telephone line.

A router will allow you to use several computers or laptops at the same time to access the Internet.  Many providers may provide a cable modem or router for you.

Very often, once you have a broadband connection, you may wish to swap the router provided to you by your service provider with one that is more suitable to your requirements – for example not all ISPs will provide a wireless router or integrated PowerLine HomePlug technologies.

ZyXEL provides both ADSL and Cable Routers with and without integrated Powerline HomePlug.
